Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum, featuring one of the richest finding collections in Turkey, is the first stop that must be visited before any other archaeological sites in the region. Excavation story and findings of each of many mounds excavated in Şanlıurfa Province are exhibited in specially designed rooms in the new Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum, which was established based on a vision of contemporary museology. The museum can be toured in a chronological concept from prehistoric ages to the present. Among the most interesting works exhibited in the museum are ‘Urfa Man’, regarded as the world’s oldest statue, the exact replica of the Temple D at Göbekli Tepe, and the cult site, referred to as Nevali Çori, which was submerged by the Atatürk Dam and moved into this museum with its original stones.
