Combs

In Şanlıurfa, the Combs had been made at the bazaar next to the Old Arasa Bath until 50 years ago. This art has been abandoned with the manufacture of plastic combs. In Şanlıurfa, the comb was made of camel’s leg bone, pear and good-grade walnut tree. Camel bone was more preferred because it gave an ivory appearance and was hard and durable compared to others. There are three main types od combs, female comb, male comb and beard comb. In 2017, ŞURKAV “Şanlıurfa Traditional Handicraft Center”, horn bone comb and wooden comb workshop was established and its production has been started.
