The memorial was erected in memory of martyrs and veterans of Urfa who fought and died under the command of Mustafa Kemal Pasha in the Dardanelles Campaign. The memorial, which was first erected in front of the Governor’s residence, was then moved in 1972 to its present location, in the middle of the park situated on the intersection.
