The Art Of Calligraphy

The oldest examples of Calligraphy, which has an important place among Islamic arts, can be seen in some architectural elements among the ruins of the Great Mosque of Harran and in the gravestones unearthed as a result of excavations in the old cemetery of Harran. In addition, the inscription on the north side of the Harran Gate, written with the name of Eyyubi, the inscription on the north wall of the Eyyubi madrasah, and the cistern inscription of Sheikh Mes’ûd Zaviye, are examples of calligraphy in XI-XII centuries in Urfa. Behcet Arabi is the most important calligrapher who has grown in Urfa in recent years, where many master calligraphers were trained for centuries.
